Another Anniversary for Darrin’s Coffee!

Surprise. It’s funny how quickly time flies. I’ve had so much go on in the past few weeks, that to be honest, days just have just been running together. I almost never get on LinkedIn. For those who aren’t familiar with the professional social networking site, when events such as “Work Anniversary”, “Birthdays” and the like show up in your news stream. And that’s what reminded me that this was an anniversary for Darrin’s Coffee.

I’m not quite sure what even led me to pull up my LinkedIn account, but something just “drew me in”… When I pulled up my page, I saw that I had about 400 new messages in my inbox. As I began to go through each message, I was pleasantly surprised. Apparently, 6 years ago today, I officially started the conglomerate in the making, Darrin’s Coffee. When I say “started” it was this day 6 years ago when someone gave me $20 for a pound of hand roasted Ethiopian Yirgacheffe.

Lot’s of people “start a business“, but never have what would be a “legitimate” business. A legitimate business is one that has a product that has value added that is not otherwise realized, and most importantly, someone is actually willing to exchange some sort of instrument of value in exchange for a good or service. In this instance, it was a $20 bill. This was also when the official name of the company was chosen. Darrin’s Coffee Company. Not because I am a person that is full of himself, but rather a pretty simple guy named Darrin, that roasted coffee in his kitchen.

So until the next anniversary for Darrin’s Coffee…

As I look back at all of the awesomeness that has occurred with this company in the past 6 years, I can think of so many things that I wish I could say was the absolute definitive best thing that’s happened, but when I came home and spoke to my son about how our respective days had played out, it hit me. I never could’ve imagined that I would be speaking to my 12 y/o about Darrin’s Coffee, the business of Darrin’s Coffee and where did he think the business should go. He was 6 y/o when we started down this road and who knows what the conversations and how well will the next 20 years go. (It also doesn’t hurt that we’re in 1st place in the 2016 Indy A List voting on the same day too! Feel free to place your vote right HERE!) We’ll see you at the next anniversary for Darrin’s Coffee. Next March.

I’m just sayin’
