“Sharing your favorite music with someone and seeing the look on their face when they realize that they love it, too.”
I started Darrin’s Coffee with the belief that everyone deserves to drink great coffee. But that’s not where the story ends. There are people out there in the world that believe that the word Deserves means entitlement. According to Websters Dictionary the word Deserves means: to be worthy, fit, or suitable for some reward or requital. And you know what? That is exactly what believe, great coffee and time with family is easily one of things that everyone deserves.
The past couple of weeks with my kids have been AWESOME. They’ve had a couple of birthdays, a couple of sleepovers, stay overs and of course if you’ve been in the shop recently, you’ve seen them in there hanging around. Today, I showed them how to make a latte. And guess what? They’re pretty good. I saw my son’s face explode with pride when he made his very own hot chocolate. Everyone deserves that.
Mrs. Darrin’s Coffee and I are now sharing with them “old” movies, and even “older” television shows. The family playing Uno, riding bikes, laughing at pranks we play on each other and talking about “what if’s” or “what would happen if’s”. Everyone deserves that.
Many of you have had the opportunity to watch them get older as well, work the cash register, make coffee, argue and do all the things that brother and sister do when stuck in a hot as blazes or cold as sin coffee shop. And the whole time, cold and all, we’re in there doing it together. Everyone deserves that.
Tomorrow they start school. School starting means they get a year older, a year closer to branching out more, learning more, experiencing more, and loving more. Being their dad gives me joy. There isn’t a word that fits this feeling I have more than joy. Everyone deserves that.
So as you can see, to say that everyone deserves to drink great coffee is just where the story for me begins. Because I believe there are a number of things everyone deserves, with Darrin’s Coffee being just one. I’m just sayin’.
